When it comes to the smallest side of the tournament, Malta is often considered an outsider. But this small side looks to cause an upset in the Round 1 Under17 qualifiers group, where they play Austria, Slovenia and Bulgaria.
Malta Under17 manager Noel Turner will have his hands full as he tries to chip points in the tournament opener against Bulgaria. “Our aim is to gain experience and give exposure to our players at the international level and collect as many points as possible.”
Their opening game opponents are amongst the tournament favorites, but Turner, as a sportsman, is ready to take on an uphill battle. “All teams in this group have the possibility to qualify to the Elite round. After all, this is an Under17 tournament.”
Quite a lot will depend on two players – a promising right full back Sheldon Mizzi is known for his runs down the flank, with his main attacking task to deliver useful balls to the second key player, striker Mattia Veselji.
